Hello, dear readers, it’s Akbi, your Editor-in-Chief here at LTAS. We have another no-holds-barred, tell-it-like-it-is post for your from Toure Cannon. He wrote a post for a while back. We thought you might like another installment of Toure’s fearless commentary, this time on how it’s enough already with talk shows—we want All My Children and One Life to Live back and won’t rest until we get them! Read on! And please add your comments and anything you’d like to discuss below. And share the link with your friends, on Facebook, on Twitter, and anywhere else (Instagram even!) you can! A special Nishadat for her lovely graphic!
Hello again, soap fans! It’s me Toure Cannon presenting you, again, with an LTAS Blog! We’re going to talk about what we want to see in the afternoon vs. stupid, dumb, uneducated, boring, vomit-inducing, puke bucket, revolting people who don’t know what they’re talking about, if-you-please-don’t-shut-up-before-I-get-a-migraine talk shows!
I can’t stand talk shows anymore! LET ME REPHRASE THAT: I HATE THEM! All they are is just blah blah blah yak yak yak about nothing important, on stuff we don’t give a hoot about!
ABC Television started the afternoon soaps line up, “Love In The Afternoon” with All My Children, One Life To Live, and General Hospital. But they made an ignorant mistake by cancelling #AMC and #OLTL, for those now-also-canceled (due to the Soap fans boycott) talk shows Katie and The Re-voltion/Revolution/Repulsion, the latter a lifestyle show that tells you how to eat, dress, manage your cash, and how to loose weight! Who wants to watch junk like that? I know I don’t! We don’t need shows starring people who think they’re better than us telling us what to eat and wear! To heck with that! And we don’t want anymore Reality TV either. Luckily, Reality TV is meeting its untimely (as in too LATE!) demise. Wipeout—gone! American Idol—gone! 19 Kids and Counting—gone! And the list goes on and on.
We soap fans are a mean, powerful bunch when it comes to our soaps! I’ve been a fan of the ABC and NBC daytime lineup for many years (sadly, the latter now only has one soap, our beloved Days of Our Lives). But I know others watch the afternoon CBS Soaps Y&R and B&B, with that other talker, The Talk, backing them up! Geesh, CBS! You have two soaps on your network, which is good, and you managed to make them coexist with long-running reality competition shows Big Brother and Survivor. This is good. But, BRING BACK Guiding Light, CBS, and move The Talk to another time slot OR JUST CANCEL THE THING ALREADY!
ABC only has one soap, with 4 TALK SHOWS! You see, we are killing DUE TO OUR ABC BOYCOTT Reality TV and cancelled two ABC talkers (Katie , The Revolution, Good Afternoon America). So the only thing left is for CBS SOAP FANS, NBC SOAP FANS, AND ABC SOAP FANS TO STAND UNITED TOGETHER TO LET THE NETWORKS KNOW SOAPS ARE WHAT WE WANT TO WATCH, NOT THE TALK SHOWS YOU’RE TRYING TO FORCE US TO WATCH. We won’t stand for it.
Oh, remember when NOPRAH, Oprah Winfrey said she’ll air the soaps on her OWN Network channel? Well she said she’s glad that we’re making a pitch effort on fighting for their return to television, but said she doesn’t have the time or can’t afford to broadcast them five days a week?! YEAH RIGHT, OPRAH! HOW DO YOU EXPECT US TO BELIEVE THAT? So I guess a new purse and a pair of shoes is more important than your television networks ratings? WHAT THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN DRINKING??? IS YOUR BRAIN THAT FRIED, or you’re just not thinking clearly? Your network could thrive with the ratings that airing of daytime dramas would bring to it, but nooooooooo a purse and a pair of shoes is more important than your television network! I use to watch your show on that most hated network that seriously screwed up by cancelling your favorite soaps, All My Children and One Life to Live. I used to watch your show from the beginning, as did many soap fans, until you decided to give it the axe, and you mean to tell me you can’t at least stand by our side and support us in this fight for their return?! You are no better than Disney/ABC TV, if not worse!!! I know as well as others your life is very, very busy, but at least you could stand by our side in support. Thanks for nothing…NOPRAH!
So tell me, readers, what would you rather watch: boring talk shows that bring in a 1.6 rating on average, OR “THE LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON” REAL SERIALIZED SCRIPTED SOAPY DRAMAS THAT BRING IN AN AVERAGE OF 2.4?
Remember to never give up the fight, and never, ever break the Abc/Disney/P&G boycott for our soaps!
Hey, readers! It’s Akbi, Editor-in-Chief again. Networks get a fee each time a show airs. So if all the soaps aired once originally, then again on a soap channel each day, wouldn’t that be better for them than a talk show that airs only once? Hello, networks! And what do you, readers, want to see on Daytime TV–talk shows or soaps? Tell us in the comment section below!
