David Arwood, LTAS Blog’s Special writers
David Arwood has been a soap fan for most of his 48 years. David grew up in East Tennessee and came of age in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s when the soaps reached their height of popularity. David began watching the soaps as a young child, and could be found most afternoons sitting with his grandmother getting hooked on her “stories.” It was in the late 1970’s that David really became a top soap fan and he is grateful to have been able to watch the great storylines of that time as they first aired. One of David’s fondest memories is talking his grandfather into letting him leave school early so he could be home to watch Luke and Laura’s wedding on “General Hospital.”
Although David has watched just about every soap at some point, he was especially hooked on the CBS line-up, and in the mid-1980’s “Guiding Light: became his favorite soap. Like most, soap fans, David went turned to the soaps as an escape during difficult times, and found comfort in the soaps, especially during the holidays when the soap characters were like family visiting for Christmas.
When fans began losing their favorite soaps, including David’s favorite “Guiding Light” he began to look for ways to remember the soaps and maybe even help bring the soaps back to their once glorious popularity. Writing for “Let’s Talk About Soaps” is David’s way of reaching out to fans and letting soap stars know that there are millions of soap fans out there who have their back now and forever.
